The Pink City Jaipur

Jaipur is a capital city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, it is called ‘pink city’ due to the pink color buildings. It is the first city in India that is planned as per Vastu Shastra and the Shilpa Shastra. The city was founded by the ruler of Amer Jai Singh II in 1727 after whom the city was named and was planned and designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. In 2019 UNESCO World Heritage Committee included the pink city among its World Heritage Sites. Rajasthan is a state that was ruled by the Royal Hindus, hence Hindu arts, forts, and sculptures can be found here.

The King of Amer who ruled the regions of Rajasthan from 1699 to 1743, planned to shift his capital from Amer to another place due to the increase in population along with the scarcity of water. He consulted many architects for the plan and later Vidyadhar Bhattacharya’s plan was accepted and was decided to shift the capital by forming a new city 11 km away from Amer. The construction started in 1726 and took almost four years to complete. The Prince of Wales visited India on a tour in 1876, the Maharaja Ram Singh of Jaipur ordered to paint the entire buildings in the city with pink color since the pink color represents the symbol of hospitality.

The city later began to develop rapidly during the 19th century, various forts, temples, museums, and parks were developed making it an important tourist destination in India. Rajasthan is also enriched with the arts, culture, and cuisines. Kathak is practiced widely in the state and Ghoomar is a famous dance style in Rajasthan. The majority of the Hindu festivals are celebrated in the state with great enthusiasm. Dal Baati Churma, Gatte ki Sabzi, Ker Sangri, Missi Roti, Lahsun ki chutney,  Bajre ki Ghat, Laal Maans, Bajre ki Roti and Makke ki Ghat are the traditional foods. Jaipuri sweets include Mawa Kachori, Chauguni ke laddu, Feeni, Gajak, Meethi thuli, Moong Thal, and Ghevar.
