Image
The Democrat-led House of Representatives has voted to override US President Donald Trump's veto of an annual defence bill, which initially passed both the House and the Senate with veto-proof majorities. With a 322-87 vote on Monday, the House easily passed the threshold of a two-thirds majority to override the President's veto of the $741 billion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of Fiscal Year 2021, reports Xinhua news agency. The vote marked the first time during Trump's presidency that lawmakers rebuked the President's veto. On December 23, Trump followed through on his threat to veto the annual policy legislation. The veto is so rare in history that it hadn't happened to the NDAA for nearly six consecutive decades. Ahead of the vote, Texas Republican Representative Mac Thornberry, who is also the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, urged his colleagues to vote for "the exact same bill" and "put the best interests of

Real Madrid beat Granada to tie league leader Atletico on points

Image
Beating Granada 2-0, Real Madrid enjoyed its sixth consecutive win in LaLiga to tie leader Atletico Madrid on 32 points in the standings but stays second on goal difference. After a tight first half, Casemiro on Wednesday evening opened the scoring with a 57th-minute header from Marco Asensio's cross and Karim Benzema sealed the win in the closing moments of the game, reports Xinhua news agency. Although Madrid deserved the win for the football they displayed in Valdebebas, Granada had two good penalty claims rejected after Casemiro clearly pulled Yangel Herrera's shirt in the first half and appeared to block a shot with his arm 16 minutes from time. Getafe and Celta Vigo drew 1-1 earlier on Wednesday. Denis Suarez opened the scoring for the home side with a thumping seventh-minute shot only for Iago Aspas' penalty to cancel it out shortly afterward in a game of few chances. Joint Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre-Patil said that the raid was carried out at around 3 a.m. jointly by Gamdevi and Sahar police stations after a large number of people were found partying without maintaining protocols like wearing masks and observing physical distancing. Vaping linked to increased smoking in teenagers

Image
Researchers have now claimed that kids who use e-cigarettes are more likely to take up smoking or smokeless tobacco. The study, published in the journal Addictive Behaviors, says teenage boys who vaped were almost three times as likely to start smoking as other teen boys with similar risk profiles and more than two times as likely to try smokeless tobacco. "For an ideal study, from a purely scientific perspective, we'd give everybody an e-cigarette, follow them for a few years and see if they start smoking, then rewind the clock and don't give them an e-cigarette," said study author Brittney Keller-Hamilton from Ohio State University in the US. "Or we'd randomly assign kids to vape or not to vape. We can't do either of those things, obviously," Keller-Hamilton added. So they looked to an advanced statistical approach -- "causal inference" -- in which they compared users and non-users of e-cigarettes who started the study with similar kn

"In January, February, even in March, before lockdown started, I was one of those singers who were always on-stage, doing live gigs, living out of suitcases for around 20 live gigs in 30 days. It was a different high! But I also realised I needed to create new musical content, for which I had to head my studio," Jubin told IANS. He continued: "So when lockdown started, instead of feeling upset, I utilised the time to work on vocals of new songs. I would have not done that if I was just hopping from one stage to another. Having said that, I am so eager to perform my new set of songs whenever live gig starts. I really, really want to meet my fans, live!" Jubin has released several non-film songs lately, including "Meri aashiqui", "Taaron ke shehar",
