Armie Hammer dropped from 'The Billion Dollar Spy'

  Hollywood actor Armie Hammer is no longer a part of the Cold War thriller "The Billion Dollar Spy". The 34-year-old actor has been dropped from the Amma Asante-directorial in the wake of rape accusation by a woman. The Los Angeles Police Department recently confirmed booking Hammer as a suspect in a sexual assault case opened by them on February 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Earlier this month the woman, identified as Elfie, said in a statement at a press conference: "On April 24th, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slammed my head against a wall, bruising my face. He also committed other acts of violence against me to which I did not consent. For example, he beat my feet with a crop so they would hurt with every step I took for the next week. Block chief's husband gunned down in Bihar

  A husband of block chief (Prakhand Pramukh) has been gunned down in Bihar's Samastipur district. The deceased, Annu Tiwari, husband of Ravita Tiwari, has a criminal background. He was facing charges in murder of RJD leader Raghuvar Rai and released on bail a month ago. Ravita Tiwari is the chief of Pusa block in the district. According to an official, Annu was in the Vaini area of the district when three bike borne assailants on Friday afternoon opened fire at him. Annu received three gunshot injuries on chest and abdomen and died on the spot. Following the incident, a large number of local villagers assembled at the place and blocked the Vaini-Samastipur main road for an hour. "We are trying to identify the accused. They fled before local villagers assembled at the place. Efforts are on to nab them.   Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg refused to own up any responsibility for the January 6 attack on the US Capitol as he put the blame on former US President Donald Trump for his "words" and the people involved in the assault for "their actions".   Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed sincere condolences on the death of sub-inspector on duty and announced Rs 50 lakh, job to dependant and road to be named after shaheed sub-inspector Prashant Yadav. Yadav was shot dead by miscreants when a police team that had gone to Naharragaon village under Khajauli police circle in Uttar Pradesh to resolve a dispute was attacked. He was shot in the neck on Wednesday evening. Two police constables were with him when the incident took place. The assailants had fled from the scene. IG Satish Ganesh said that there was a crop related dispute between two brothers and the police team had gone there to resolve the matter. US President Joe Biden condemns Colorado shooting, urges Senate to pass gun reform bills

     US President Joe Biden said he was "devastated" by the shooting a day earlier at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, that killed 10 people, urging the Senate to immediately pass the bills on gun reform recently approved by the House. "Ten lives have been lost, and more families have been shattered by gun violence in the state of Colorado," Biden said in remarks from the White House on Tuesday.   Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday left for Bangladesh on a two-day state visit, during which she will attend a special programme in Dhaka and meet others senior leaders from the region. Bangladesh is hosting the 10-day special programme to celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and also 50 years of the country's independence. 'UK strain likely accounts for 30% of US Covid cases'

  The highly contagious coronavirus variant first identified in Britain likely accounts for up to 30 per cent of the confirmed cases in the US, Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, said. The variant, called B.1.1.7, has been reported in at least 94 countries and detected in 50 jurisdictions in the US, Fauci said on Friday during a White House briefing on the pandemic. He added that the numbers are likely growing, reports Xinhua news agency. Fauci said the B.1.1.7 variant is 50 per cent more transmissible and likely to cause more severe disease. "We're at a position right now where we have a plateauing at around 53,000 cases per day," he said.   The overall number of global Covid-19 cases has surpassed the grim milestone of 120.6 million as the pandemic is still raging, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.66 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University. In its latest update on Wednesday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and death toll stood at 120,648,897 and 2,669,791, respectively. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 29,492,616 and 535,596, respectively, according to the CSSE. Brazil follows in the second place with 11,603,535 cases and 282,127 fatalities. China renews alert for heavy fog

  China's national observatory on Sunday renewed a yellow alert for heavy fog in many parts of the country. Thick fog is expected to hit parts of Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Hunan through Sunday morning, according to the National Meteorological Center (NMC). Visibility in some affected areas will be reduced to less than 200 metres, Xinhua news agency quoted the NMC as saying. The observatory also forecast heavy fog in the Liaodong Gulf and the Yellow Sea on Sunday, which will reduce visibility in some areas to less than 1 km. The NMC said drivers should slow down to safe speeds, and airports, freeways and ports should take appropriate safety measures. China has a four-tier colour-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Saudi King appoints new senior officials

  Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has issued decrees to appoint new officials, official media reported. According to the decrees issued on Friday, the King dismissed Mohammad Saleh bin Taher Benten and appointed Issam bin Saad bin Saeed as the acting minister of Haj and Umrah, who also serves as the Minister of State and a cabinet member, Xinhua news agency reported citing the official media as saying. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej was appointed as the head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation, replacing Abdulhadi bin Ahmed Al-Mansouri. Russia to host meeting on Afghanistan peace process

  Amidst new efforts by the US to expedite Afghanistan's reconciliation efforts, officials have confirmed that Russia is planning to host a meeting on the war-torn country's peace process. Politicians from Afghanistan, including President Ashraf Ghani and High Council for National Reconciliation chair Abdullah Abdullah, as well as foreign envoys and Taliban representatives, are expected to attend the meeting in Moscow on March 18, the reconciliation council's spokesman Fraidoon Khwazoon said on Tuesday. "A conference will be held. Some figures have been invited. The reconciliation council chairman has also been invited," TOLO News quoted Khwazoon said as saying.
