DMK's protest over water scarcity Chennai, June 22  (UITV/IANS)- Tamil Nadu's Opposition DMK on Saturday began protests across the state against the AIADMK government's failure to take prompt action to meet the state's water crisis. The ruling party officials, meanwhile, were holding yagnas in temples seeking God's blessings for the rains. With Chennai and several other places in Tamil Nadu facing an acute water shortage, the DMK is holding protests to press the state government to take necessary action to mitigate the people's suffering. Bullet Train New Delhi, June 22   (UITV/IANS)- Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is missing on its deadline of land acquisition as till date only 39 per cent of the 1,380 hectares of land required has been acquired. A senior National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) official requesting anonymity told IANS: "Till date, we have acquired about 39 per cent of the land." He said the NHSRCL has acquired 537 of the 1,387 hectares land required in Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Gujarat, the NHSRCL has acquired 471 of 940 hectares of land, while in Maharashtra, it has acquired 66 of 431 hectares. "Of the nine hectares land required in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the agency has been unable to acquire even a single piece of land," he said. US President Donald Trump Washington, June 22  (UITV/IANS)- US President Donald Trump has spoken over phone with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud on Iran. The two leaders on Friday discussed issues related to Iran and Saudi Arabia's role in ensuring stability in the Middle East and the global oil market, the White House said in a statement, Xinhua reported. The ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran further intensified after the downing of a US military drone by Iran on Thursday. US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Iran claimed the drone had crossed Iranian borders, while US military insisted the drone was shot down in international air space. The incident and its ramification have led to a surge of oil price. Trump on Friday confirmed that he authorized military strikes against Iran in retaliation but called off the operations 10 minutes before they were to be implemented.
