This is how Twitter is shaping consumer behaviour in India

Image
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UITV/IANS)-  Twitter on Tuesday revealed, after analysing billions of tweets in India over a two-year period, how three key trends are behind an underlying shift in consumer behaviour in the country. The '2022 Twitter Trends India' report found three biggest trends emerging to the top of conversation: 'Finance Goes Social', 'Fan-build Worlds', and 'Entrepreneurship Hits Peak Culture'. "The report captures the themes and interests that are shaping consumer behaviour in the Indian market, and outlines top trends for brands to lean into to become a part of conversations that are happening right now, and will continue to grow," said Preetha Athrey, Director, Global Business Marketing, Twitter APAC. The three trends were observed based on analysis of billions of tweets from January 1 2020-December 31 2021. Kremlin lays groundwork for referenda to annex parts of Ukraine

Image
Moscow, Aug 29 (UITV/IANS)  Russia appears to be laying the groundwork for annexing occupied parts of Ukraine by holding referenda. Kremlin official Sergei Kiriyenko cited recent surveys on Sunday showing that support in the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, collectively known as Donbas, for joining Russia is between 91 per cent and 92 per cent, reports dpa news agency. In the recently conquered regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhya, Kiriyenko said the level of support was between 75 per cent and 77 per cent. Russian President Vladimir Putin has routinely said that if the people showed support for joining his country, then the Kremlin would respond. However, Russia is not in full control of all the regions that it hints are ready to be annexed. Ukraine controls large parts of Donetsk and has hinted at a counter-offensive in Kherson. On Sunday, the Ukrainian army's Operational Command South said they have attacked three Russian command posts and at least two ammuniti

Spain passes law against sexual violence

Image
Madrid, Aug 26 (UITV/IANS)  People in Spain will have to explicitly voice their consent to sexual acts in the future to ensure that they are not criminal, under a legislation passed by Parliament. The conservative People's Party (PP) and right-wing populist Vox party voted against the so-called "Yes Means Yes" law, arguing that it goes against the spirit of innocence until proven guilty, reports dpa news agency. The law had already passed lower house scrutiny in May, but was sent back by the Senate with a small suggested change. The new law lifts the distinction between abuse and aggression. Sexual abuse will be regarded as rape by the law regardless of whether the victim actively defends him- or herself. Rape and sexual violence will carry a penalty of up to 15 years in prison. Furthermore, "intimidating" compliments and the spreading of sex tapes will also be criminalised. Equalities Minister Irene Montero called the law "a decisive step to the change o

Biden's approval rating shoots up to over 40

Image
Washington, Aug 25 (UITV/IANS)  US President Joe Biden's approval ratings have surpassed 40 per cent since June this year following a series of successes with his executive order on abortion rights; historic passage of the climate change; healthcare and inflation reduction bills in Congress; and his cancelling of student loans in a massive debt forgiveness programme. Biden, who inherited a battered legacy from his predecessor Donald Trump battling a post-Covid economy, joblessness, high inflation, threats of a recession, has bolstered his image with his recent successes with the inflation reduction act, capping drug prices for the poor, better healthcare package for the urban middle class from insurers, upholding women's abortion rights, and doing his best to write off as much of the $1.7 trillion debt incurred by 45 million students. The President's new high ratings woke up Americans on Wednesday morning from their slumber as his image went up, though not fully, but in

The summit titled Crimea Platform, is Ukraine's second effort to mobilize international support for taking back the Black Sea peninsula from Russia, reports dpa news agency. "A place of paradise was turned into a depressive and dependent region - into a region of high fences, barbed wire and lawlessness," Zelensky told the videoconference. "Citizens from Crimea and in Crimea... I know that Crimea is with Ukraine and is waiting for us to come back. I want you to know: we will definitely come back." The President said that when Ukraine regains control over Crimea, it will fix "everything that the occupiers did on the peninsula" in various areas and restore justice, reports Ukrayinska Pravda. According to Zelensky, "the degradation of Russia began

Brazil-Argentina replay called off

Image
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 17 (UITV/IANS)  Brazil and Argentina will no longer be required to replay a World Cup qualifier that was controversially abandoned last year, both countries' football associations have said. The South American rivals had been slated to play the qualifier last September but the fixture was suspended less than 10 minutes after kickoff because of alleged Covid-19 rule breaches by Argentina. FIFA had ordered the match be rescheduled for September 22 but changed its mind following appeals from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Xinhua reports. "Finally, the match between Brazil-Argentina will not be replayed and the open date will allow for our national team to play a friendly as a result, in preparation for Qatar World Cup 2022," the CBF said. "(We are) grateful to FIFA for the willingness and availability to resolve this problem under these very specific circumstances in this short span of time.

Putin reaffirms goal of capturing Ukraine's Donbas region

Image
Moscow, Aug 16 (UITV/IANS)  Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed the goal of completely capturing the Ukraine's separatist Donbas region, nearly six months after launching his war against Kiev. The President told international guests at an annual military forum near Moscow on Monday that the Russian army is fulfilling its tasks in the so-called "People's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk", reports dpa news agency While Kiev accuses Moscow of the most serious war crimes and a bloody occupation policy, Putin once again claimed that "the soil of the Donbas is being liberated step by step" from Ukrainian nationalists. Putin recognised the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states in February despite international protests, and then launched a war. The forum also featured a display of Russian tanks and missiles. Putin praised the work of Russian arms companies in equipping the military with "modern weapons that today work for

Los Angeles, Aug 13 (UITV/IANS)  US actress Anne Heche is dead but will remain on life support to allow for a possible organ donation, her representative has said. The 53-year-old had been in a coma for a week after crashing her car into a house in Los Angeles, reports the BBC. "Today we lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul," her family said in a statement on Friday. Heche appeared in films including 'Volcano', 'Donnie Brasco' and the 1998 remake of 'Psycho'. The mother-of-two also appeared on 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2020. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Heche's vehicle "erupted in heavy fire", which took 59 firefighters more than an hour to fully extinguish. The two-storey home she crashed into was left "uninhabitable". As well as suffering burns, the actress was left with "a severe anoxic brain injury", when the brain is deprived of oxygen, the BBC quoted her family as s
