  Chennai, Aug 12 (UITV/IANS)  The Department of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) bureau was conducting raids and searches at 26 premises of former AIADMK MLA, K.P.P. Baskar since Friday morning. The former MLA is a close associate of the AIADMK interim general secretary and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Sources told IANS that the raids were being conducted at places linked to the MLA and his wife. The DVAC, according to sources, had conducted a study on the former MLA's properties and found that his wealth had increased several times during the period from 2016 to 2021.   Kolkata, Aug 10 (UITV/IANS)  Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mandal on Wednesday once again skipped CBI summons in connection with cattle smuggling case in West Bengal. This is the tenth time that Mandal has evaded the probe agency's call on health grounds. Mandal, the party's Birbhum district president, was supposed to be present at the CBI's Nizam Palace office in central Kolkata on Wednesday at 11 a.m. However, at around 10 a.m., two counsels of Mandal arrived at Nizam Palace and handed over a communique on his inability to appear on medical grounds. As a supporting document, they handed over medical advice from Bolpur Sub-Divisional Hospital prescribing bed-rest for him. He had appeared at the CBI office for interrogation just once in May this year and since then he had been avoiding the consecutive central agency summons.   Hyderabad, Aug 9 (UITV/IANS)  Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that Muharram symbolises supreme sacrifice and tolerance.   Kolkata, Aug 8 (UITV/IANS)  Ducking CBI's summons to appear for questioning in relation to the cattle smuggling case on Monday, Trinamool Congress district Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal has reached Kolkata for a medical check-up at the state-run SSKM Medical College & Hospital. However, this morning, the CBI officials sent an email communique to Mandal's counsel insisting that the party strongman appear at the agency's Nizam Palace office immediately after his medical check-up. "On Sunday afternoon we received mail for Mandal's counsel where he sought 15 days of time for his client to appear for questioning. Meanwhile, we learnt that he has come to Kolkata for a medical check-up. We consulted our senior officials in New Delhi and finally sent an email communique asking him to appear for questioning from SSKM," a CBI official said. Washington, Aug 6 (UiTV/IANS)  - A West Virginia man who threatened to kill Anthony Fauci for his work as chief medical advisor to the US President during the Covid-19 pandemic has been sentenced to more than three years in prison, the Justice Department said. The Department said on Friday that Thomas Patrick Connally Jr, 57, will serve 37 months in a federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release for encrypted emails sent to the country's infectious disease expert and head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reports dpa news agency. Connally confessed in a plea agreement that he was responsible for sending unsolicited emails to Fauci for a nearly seven-month period that ended in late July 2021.   Dhaka, Aug 4 (UITV/IANS)  Bangladesh's inflation decreased to 7.48 per cent in July from 7.56 per cent in June, according to the latest data. While revealing the data on Wednesday, Planning Minister MA Mannan said the figure was higher than that in the same month last year when inflation stood at 5.36 per cent, reports Xinhua news agency. According to Consumer Price Index (CPI), food inflation declined to 8.19 per cent in July from 8.37 per cent the previous month. Non-food items inflation, however, increased to 6.39 per cent in July from 6.33 per cent in June, the data showed. Bangladesh's inflation in June increased to 7.56 per cent, the highest in about nine years. Against this backdrop, the Minister expressed his satisfaction with the decrease in CPI in July, saying it's good news for the government as it tried to rein in inflation in line with the budgetary target.
