Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to take charge as new Prez of Philippines

  Manila, June 30 (UITV/IANS)  Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the son of late leader Ferdinand Marcos, will be sworn in as the 19th President of the Philippines on Thursday, succeeding the outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte. Marcos Jr. won the presidential election in May with 60 per cent of the votes over rival Maria Leonor Robredo. Meanwhile, his running mate Sara Duterte-Carpio, the 43-year-old daughter of Rodrigo Duterte, will be sworn in as the Vide President. The oath taking ceremony will take place in the afternoon at the National Museum in Manila. Hundreds of local and foreign dignitaries will attend and some 15,000 security personnel will be deployed across the Philippines capital for the event. First batch of Amarnath Yatra 2022 leaves for Valley

  Jammu, June 29 (UITV/IANS)  The first batch of pilgrims for the Amarnath Yatra which begins on Thursday, was flagged off by J&K Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha from Jammu base camp on Wednesday. The batch including 717 pilgrims who left for the north Kashmir Baltal base camp, was flagged off from Bhagwati Nagar base camp by Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha around 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Amarnath Yatra 2022 begins on June 30 and it will conclude on August 11 on Shravan Purnima coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival. The pilgrims left in a convoy for the Valley escorted by security forces. Both north Kashmir Baltal and south Kashmir Pahalgam routes of the Yatra are being security by hundreds of security forces drawn from the army, central armed police forces (CAPFs) and the local police. New Mexico Governor issues order to protect access to abortion

  Santa Fe, June 28 (UITV/IANS)  New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed an executive order to protect women seeking abortions and abortion providers in the US state after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that safeguarded women's reproductive rights. "Residents seeking access will be protected, providers will be protected, and abortion is and will continue to be legal, safe and accessible, period," the Democratic governor, who is running for a second term in November, said at a news conference on Monday. According to the order, New Mexico will seek to shield health care professionals targeted by lawsuits from losing their licenses or being disciplined for providing abortion services, and will not comply with abortion-related warrants or extradition requests from other states.   New Delhi, June 25 (UITV/IANS)  A man has been robbed of Rs 34 lakh here at the Sarai Rohilla flyover, the police said on Friday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sagar Singh Kalsi said a PCR call was received around 12.50 a.m. on June 23 at Sarai Rohilla police station regarding a loot at Sarai Rohilla flyover. As soon as the police received information, it rushed to the spot. A person -- Vicky Gupta, working for his employer Vijay Rathod, submitted that he was delivering a payment of Rs 34 lakh from his shop to a place in Subzi Mandi. "At around 9.30 p.m., when the victim reached the Sarai Rohilla flyover, two men came on a scooty, obstructed him and looted cash of Rs 34,17,000 from him," the DCP said. YouTuber bought weapons to make reels, held with aide

  New Delhi, June 24 (UITV/IANS)  A YouTuber who purchased a country-made pistol to make reels has been arrested by the Dwarka district police along with his juvenile friend. The main accused has been identified as Shivanand, a resident of Mahavir Enclave in Dwarka. The DCP of Dwarka, M. Harsha Vardhan, said that on June 21, the police in Bindapur area spotted the two youth on a two-wheeler riding on the service lane without wearing helmet. "The police signalled them to stop but they tried to escape from the spot. The cops then nabbed them after a chase," said Vardhan. When the police frisked the duo, they found a big dagger and a country-made pistol along with two live cartridges. "The accused purchased the weapons for making reels and vlogs. During interrogation, the supplier of the pistol was identified and efforts are on to nab him," Vardhan said. Now Tata Nexon EV catches fire in Mumbai, probe on

  Mumbai/New Delhi, June 23 (UITV/IANS)  In a first such case involving an electric car in India, a Tata Nexon EV caught fire in Mumbai and the company was investigating the incident. The EV car fire incident was reported from Vasai West (near Panchvati hotel) in Mumbai late on Wednesday, and the video of the Tata Nexon engulfed in fire went viral on social media. The company said in a statement that "a detailed investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain the facts of this isolated incident". "We will share a detailed response thereafter. We remain committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users," it added. Tata Nexon EV is the highest selling electric car in India and at least 2,500-3,000 cars are being sold every month in the country. The company has so far sold over 30,000 Nexon EVs. Punjab IAS officer held for bribery

  Chandigarh, June 21 (UiTV/IANS)  - The Punjab vigilance arrested Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Popli and his secretary on corruption charges. As per the FIR, Popli allegedly sought one per cent commission from a contractor of a Rs 7 crore sewerage project in the Nawanshahr town during the previous Congress regime. The contractor paid Rs 3.5 lakh through Sanjeev Vats, a Superintendent-level official posted as secretary to the officer, who was heading the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, on January 12. The officials said Popli was seeking the remaining Rs 3.5 lakh from the contractor, who recorded his phone calls and complained on the anti-corruption helpline set up by the present Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Israel warns Iran over alleged attempts to attack Israelis abroad

Making the remarks at the weekly cabinet meeting, Bennett on Sunday said "we are currently witnessing Iranian attempts to attack Israelis in various overseas locations," adding that "Iran's plans focus on Turkey" while Israeli security services "are working to thwart attempted attacks before they are launched". UN peacekeepers call for protection from civilian attacks in Lebanon

Global cases of monkeypox surpass 1,000: US CDC

  Washington, June 9 (UITV/IANS)  Global cases of the monkeypox virus have surpassed 1,000, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said and urged people to take extra precautions. As of June 6, 1,019 confirmed and suspected cases of monkeypox have been reported in 29 countries, according to the CDC. The UK has recorded the most cases, 302 suspected and confirmed infections, followed by Spain (198), Portugal (153) and Canada (80), CNBC reported. In the wake of rising cases, the CDC also ramped up its alert to a level 2, encouraging people to "practise enhanced precautions" to stem the outbreak, which has spread to 29 non-endemic countries in the past month. The highest level alert, level 3, would caution against non-essential travel. Officials at the CDC also suspect that the monkeypox virus may be airborne at least for "short distances" and thus have asked people and healthcare workers in close contact to wear masks.
