Nepal introduces digital visa system

  Nepal on Monday launched a digital visa system to replace its 45-year-old hand-written visa regime. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel inaugurated the new system under which visas are produced digitally from the integrated information system of the Department of Immigration, the Xinhua news agency reported. According to a statement by the Department of Immigration, key features of the digital visa system include hologram and water mark as security features and QR code in visa sticker with details of the visa enabling authorities to determine whether the visa is authentic with the help of QR code readers. The department said that as the digital system generates visas, their details cannot be tempered. Likewise, the software system itself will generate visa numbers and three visas can be accommodated on a single page of passport.   ICC match referee Phil Whitticase -- who officiated in the three-match T20I series between England and Sri Lanka which concluded on June 26 with the hosts winning 3-0 -- has tested positive for Covid-19. Whitticase, along with seven other officials, will not officiate in the three match ODI series beginning at Chester-le-Street, Durham on Tuesday. The England and Wales Cricket (ECB) Board said in a statement on Sunday that, "Following a PCR test administered on Friday 25 June at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton, The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that ICC Match Referee Phil Whitticase has tested positive for Covid-19.   India are among the 22 teams out of 24 teams that have advanced to the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifiers final round, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Wednesday. Following the conclusion of the preliminary joint qualifiers Round 2, 13 teams, including AFC Asian Cup 2023 host China and FIFA World Cup 2022 host and reigning Asian champions Qatar have sealed their places for the main competition scheduled to take place from June 16-July 16, 2023. Therefore, three of the lowest ranked second-placed teams, all eight third and fourth-placed teams across Groups A to H, as well as three best fifth-placed teams -- 22 teams in total -- have qualified for the 24-team AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifiers final round. IndiGo flight's tyre bursts, but lands safely in Hubballi

  An IndiGo flight's tyre burst while it was attempting to land at Hubballi in Karnataka, the airline said on Tuesday. The 6E 7979 aircraft, an ATR, was operating from Kerala's Kannur. Confirming the incident, the airline said in a statement, "IndiGo ATR 6E 7979 from Kannur to Hubli reported a tyre burst at Hubballi upon arrival on Monday evening." The aircraft, however, landed safely at around 8.35 p.m. on Monday with seven passengers and four crew members. "All passengers and crew are safe. The aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance checks at Hubballi," the IndiGo statement read. The airport director of Hubballi, Pramod Kumar Thakur, told reporters that all the passengers were safely deboarded and the runway was cleared for operations at 2.20 am. US researchers start testing mix-and-match Covid vaccine boosters

  US researchers have started a clinical trial to test what happens when adults who have been fully vaccinated with one type of Covid-19 vaccine receive booster doses of a different Covid-19 vaccine. The trial aims to determine the safety and immunogenicity of mixed boosted regimens, according to the US National Institutes of Health (NIH), Xinhua reported. The trial will include about 150 adults who have been fully vaccinated with one of the three approved Covid-19 vaccines in the United States, the Johnson & Johnson, Moderna or Pfizer vaccines. Each vaccine group will enroll about 25 people aged 18 to 55 years, and about 25 people aged 56 years and older. Twelve to 20 weeks following their initial vaccination regimen, participants will receive a single booster dose of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine as part of the trial.
