While declaring May as Asian American Heritage Month, US President Donald Trump recalled his visit to India as "a demonstration of our nation's enduring friendship with one of the world's largest and most diverse countries". He said on Wednesday that the visit in February "also reaffirmed that India and the United States are committed to building a comprehensive global strategic partnership grounded in shared interests and common purpose, benefiting both of our countries". May is celebrated by tradition as Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month to highlight the contributions of people of that descent and to popularise their culture. Congress also has passed a law recognising May as month honouring those heritages. Asserting in US commitment to strengthening relations with countries in the region, Trump said: "I was proud to stand alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event in Houston, Texas, and earlier this year I made my first

Some 4,000 Sri Lankan Navy personnel and their families have been quarantined after at least 185 military members tested positive for the novel coronavirus , officials said on Tuesday. Some 181 of the virus-positive military personnel are from the Navy who were among the first responders in the island-nation's battle against the disease that has infected 588 people and claimed the lives of seven others. Navy spokesperson Lt Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara told Efe news that the force had tracked all personnel potentially exposed to the virus and put them under isolation or quarantine. The disease erupted in the force after a sailor contracted the virus while taking part in an operation to arrest a group of curfew violators. The sailor showed no symptoms in the first week after his infection. "These officers and sailors are healthy with high immunity. It could be the reason why it took several days for the sailor to show symptoms," Sooriyabandara said, adding that over 9

It is suspected that FIFA President Gianni Infantino intervened with Switzerland's attorney general to try to get in the way of an investigation, a Swiss newspaper alleged on Monday. According to the Tribune de Geneve newspaper, Infantino was "worried" about the investigation and wrote to his friend, Rinaldo Arnold, who had become a senior prosecutor in Switzerland's Haut-Valais region. The investigation was launched in early 2016 by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) shortly after Infantino was elected President of world football's governing body. It was about his awarding of a television rights contract to an offshore company in his previous role as UEFA's legal affairs director. "I will try to explain to the OAG that it is in my interests that everything should be cleared up as soon as possible, that it be clearly stated that I have nothing to do with this matter," he wrote in an email cited by the newspaper. Australia COVID-19 tracing app surpasses 1 million downloads in 5 hrs

More than 1 million Australians have downloaded the government's coronavirus tracing app within hours of its launch, Health Minister Greg Hunt said on Monday. The COVIDSafe app was released at 6 p.m. on Sunday night, and by 10:30 p.m. it had been downloaded 1 million times, rising to 1.13 million by 6 a.m. on Monday, Xinhua news agency quoted Hunt as saying. He told Sky News Australia that the number of downloads in the first five hours after launch exceeded what the government expected in the first five days. "Australians have responded magnificently," he said. "We had in our quiet hopes thought that we might get to a million in five days. We were lucky enough to get there in five hours." The app uses Bluetooth to check if any other devices with the app installed are within 1.5 metres of the user. If a user tests positive for COVID-19 health authorities can then use the app to find other users that they have been in close contact with and warn them that they
